BECKLEY - The Federal Emergency Management Agency is taking advantage of advancing technology and launching an application for consumers.
FEMA recently launched the app to provide information including disaster safety tips, interactive emergency kit lists and maps with open and available shelters.
Emergency service officials told Newswatch it's a handy tool to help residents be better informed before disasters.
"This gives you that education about certain events before they ever occur," Kervin Taylor said. "A computer, on your desktop or your phone, or an iPod or whatever the case may be. This is just taking an advantage of that technology and getting as much information into as many consumers as possible."
A feature only available to Android users allows consumers to relay information back to FEMA.
