UPDATE: Victim killed by train crash near Martinsburg is identified

UPDATE: 

MARTINSBURG - Police identified a Martinsburg man who died after he was struck by a train Friday.

Vincent T. Brown, 43, walked into the path of a train late Friday night near Martinsburg, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office. Investigators believe he was not paying attention when he attempted to cross the track. The train was backing up when it hit Brown and engineers tried unsuccessfully to stop the train. 

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said his death has been ruled accidental.

MARTINSBURG - One man is dead after being struck by a train near Martinsburg late Friday night.

The victim was on a walkway between two crossings when he was struck, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's department. The train was backing up when it hit the man and investigators say this may have limited his ability to hear the train approaching.

The victim has not yet been identified, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sheriff's Department continues to investigate this incident.
