OAK HILL - The House Speaker Tim Miley appointed Delegate David Perry Vice Chairman of the Education Committee earlier this week. Perry will be handling all education related legislation that comes before the house. Perry has more than 30 years in the education system as a principal. He was also first elected to the House of Representatives in 2000. Perry visited WOAY to talk about his thoughts on the new position as being appointed by Speaker Miley.
"It was reassuring that he looked at people's credentials and past experiences of expertise in terms of appointments he's made, so I was humbled but at the same time excited to undertake in this area in which I have been involved in for some 35 years," said Perry. "I think it's very significant that southern West Virginia has representation for the leadership team and I would be that representative. And it spreads the components out throughout the house leadership, geographically throughout the state of West Virginia."
Delegate Parry also said he will try and focus on middle childhood education and college readiness.
