BECKLEY - While thousands at the Jamboree have the concert to look forward to Saturday night, dozens of scouts performed their own concert on Friday.
The Jamboree Band played at Word Park in Beckley as part of the Fridays in the Park series. Band members are from 32 states across the country. They performed as part of the Reaching the Summit Community Service Initiative, which is the largest community service effort of its kind in U.S. history.
"Thousands and thousands of kids are coming out and doing various kinds of projects," explained Jamboree Band Director George Pinchock. "And what does a band do? A band plays and a band entertains. So that's what we did."
Virginia resident Maya Garcia of the Venture Crew said she enjoys playing for the community. "Knowing that there are people who love music and want to come out and just hear us play is really uplifting and inspiring to us to keep playing for other people," said Garcia.
The Band has also been playing for their peers at the Jamboree.
