UPDATE: Woman hit by bullet after multiple shots fired at apartment building

BECKLEY - A woman was taken to the hospital this morning after she was hit by a bullet in a late-night shooting in Beckley.

Detective David Farley with the Beckley Police Department said the woman in her early 20s was hit by a bullet that went through the wall after several shots were fired at an apartment complex just before midnight last night. She was taken to Raleigh General Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Patricia Sorrell, the victim's mother, explained what it was like when her daughter's boyfriend called to tell her about the shootingt. "That call that time of night is every mother's worst nightmare," she explained. "I didn't know what I was going to find." Sorrell urges anyone with information to contact the authorities.

Farley said they don't have any suspects at this time. Anyone with information is asked call the Beckley Police Department at 304-256-1708 or Crime Stoppers at 304-255-STOP.

BECKLEY - Two people were taken to the hospital after a late-night shooting in Beckley.

Dispatchers said that the incident happened on Barber Avenue at about 11:56 Sunday night.  Not too many other details are known at this time, but Jan Care did transport two people with injuries. 

The Beckley Police Department is handling the investigation.
