BECKLEY - Associate degree graduates of New River Community and Technical College (NRCTC) can now easily transition to the University of Charleston (UC).
The presidents of each school signed an articulation agreement on Tuesday, which allows NRCTC graduates to minimize credit loss when transferring to select bachelors programs at UC. Transfer students will be eligible to graduate with a bachelor's degree in just two years.
Marshall Washington, President of NRCTC, said the agreement will help make higher education more affordable for more people. "Some of our students may not even look at a particular opportunity like this," he explained. "And this gives them the opportunity to look at it and say, 'I can make this work for me.'"
UC President Dr. Ed Welch agreed, saying the agreement, "Reduces the fear factor, increases the familiarity factor and dramatically increases the chances of their being successful," Welch said. "And that's what it's all about."
Welch said the schools are looking to add additional degree programs to the agreement.
