BLUEFIELD – Bluefield Blue Jays outfielder Derrick Loveless has been named the Appalachian League Offensive Player of the Week for the first week and a half of the 2013 season.
Through the conclusion of the June, Loveless hit .355 with two doubles, two triples, two home runs, and two RBI. He worked five walks and only struck out three times in 31 at-bats.
Loveless, a native of Solon, Iowa, also posted an astounding on-base percentage at .444 during that stretch and compiled a .742 slugging percentage.
After a relatively quiet opening series against the Greeneville Astros, Loveless began rolling at the plate during a three-game set at the Pulaski Mariners. In the first game of the series, Loveless went 4-5 with two home runs.
In the final two games of the Pulaski series, Loveless went 4-8 with two doubles and a triple.
Loveless was drafted in the 27th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Solon High School. He spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons with Toronto’s Gulf Coast League team in Dunedin, Fla.
