FAYETTEVILLE - This weekend is field day for amateur radio where the public can meet the radio operators called "hams". The hams provide back up communication for FEMA, the Red Cross and other organizations. They can send messages in many different forms without the use of internet, phone lines or other infrastructure to call in rescue to towns that have no communication during a crisis. Operators say it has been their saving grace in the past and will be in the future.
