JONBEN - A Raleigh County man was killed Friday morning after officials said he pulled a gun on a deputy and took off on a four-wheeler.

According to a release from the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office, home confinement officers were checking up on Charles Wickline, 46, of Jonben, as a condition of his bond for a child neglect resulting in death charge.  When they arrived at his home on Bacontown Road, Wickline allegedly pulled a gun out on the officers and fled on an ATV.

Deputies were able to find him at 5:00 a.m. hiding behind a tree on Willowbet Hollow Road.  Officials said Wickline fired a round at the deputies as they were trying to get him to surrender, causing a deputy to react.  The deputy shot Wickline in the chest.  Deputies and a family member attempted to save Wickline by performing CPR until an ambulance arrived and took over.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
