WELCH - An interactive documentary that let the people of McDowell County tell their own stories will launch this week, with a website set to go live Thursday.

"Hollow" combined video portraits, user-generated content, and mapping on a website.  Showings are scheduled for 9:00 p.m. Saturday at the Martha Moore Riverfront Park in Welch and 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Big Creek People in Action in Caretta.

The production team focused on about 30 people, but wants others to share their stories at computer labs Saturday.

The documentary was conceived by WVU graduate Elaine McMillion.  She said Appalachia and West Virginia are often defined by stereotypes created by outsiders.  McMillion said "Hollow" offered a more authentic view of residents' challenges and dreams.
