UPDATE (5/9/2013): Officials released the name of the man found dead of an apparent electrocution on Beury Mountain Wednesday morning.
Capt. Jim Sizemore with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said the man was Dalton Newhouse, 22, of Oak Hill.
UPDATE: One man has died and another is behind bars after authorities say an attempted copper theft goes wrong.
The Fayette county Sheriff's Department says the call came in just after 10:30 Wednesday morning. The initial investigation by the National Park Service and the Sheriff's Department indicates a Fayette County man died from electrocution while trying to steal copper wiring on Beury Mountain near Thurmond. His identity is not being released at this time. His body is being sent to the Medical Examiner's office.
His accomplice was identified as 22-year-old Charles Raymond Norris of Oak Hill. Norris was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and disruption of a public utility and attempting to commit a felony.
BEURY MOUNTAIN - A man was found dead in Fayette County Wednesday morning, and now investigators believe he may have been trying to steal copper.
Dispatchers said the initial call came in at 10:36 a.m. Officials told Newswatch that the man reportedly died from electrocution while he was attempting to steal copper wiring on Beury Mountain which is near Thurmond.
Officers with the National Park Service and the Fayette County Sheriff's Department are still investigating.
