FAYETTEVILLE - Fayette County residents can now be electronically alerted about emergencies and other notices through Nixle, a public notification system.
Director of Emergency Management Shawn Wolford made the announcement at Friday's county commission meeting. Nixle allows for instantaneous mass messages by e-mail, text and phone alerts.
Wolford explained these alerts can warn residents about weather events and traffic delays from an accident. "We can instantly get the word out that a certain roadway is blocked and maybe for an extended period of time (people should) take a detour," he said.
To sign up for these alerts, go to www.Nixle.com
or text your zip code to 888-777.
