HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Marshall softball (30-19, 11-9 C-USA) will conclude its regular season with a weekend series against UTEP (12-33, 1-19 C-USA) at Dot Hicks Field. The three-game series will be the last for the seniors on the squad. The six will be recognized after the 11 a.m. game on Sunday, May 5, but not before the Thundering Herd faces the Miners in pink on Saturday, May 4, in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. ET.

Marshall holds a 14-8 advantage in the all-time series with UTEP. The teams last met in El Paso last season, where the Thundering Herd swept the three-game series with 7-5, 7-6 and 8-0 victories, the last of which came in five innings via the mercy rule. Marshall has not lost to UTEP in the last six meetings between the two schools, going 5-0-1.

The Thundering Herd enters the weekend after a 5-1 midweek victory at Morehead State in which seniors Jazmine Valle and Alysia Hively each hit home runs and combined to earn the only RBIs for the Herd. Hively’s nine home runs this season are a team high and rank fourth in Conference USA. Freshman Kaelynn Greene went 3-for-4 on the afternoon and scored two runs. Greene currently leads the team with a .349 average and 25 runs scored, while holding a 15-game, reach-base streak – the Herd’s second-highest behind Hively’s 18. Greene’s .368 average against C-USA opponents leads the Thundering Herd, while fellow freshman Shaelynn Braxton has hit five home runs and delivered 17 RBIs in conference play, both team bests.

In the circle, senior Andi Williamson is 11-6 in C-USA action with a 2.50 ERA. She has struck out 100 conference batters and 312 total this season, a number that ranks her No. 1 in Conference USA and No. 2 nationally.

The Miners are currently on an 18-game losing streak coming into the weekend. They have not won a conference game since their C-USA opener against Southern Miss on March 23. Junior Erika Arcuri’s .346 average leads the UTEP starters. Junior Alanna Leasau has hit a team-high eight home runs and seven doubles. Her 39 RBIs are 20 more than the next highest total on the team.

UTEP has used two pitchers regularly this season. Freshman Danielle Pearson has appeared in 32 games for the Miners with a 6-13 record and 3.86 ERA, while teammate and junior Colleen Hohman is 4-10 with a 5.96 ERA in 16 starts (25 total performances).

This series will be the final home-stand for the Herd this season. Throughout the games on Saturday, there will be a silent auction for Marshall’s pink jerseys. The auction will end in the fifth inning of game two, and the money will be donated to the Strike Out Cancer Foundation on behalf of Marshall softball.
