BLUEFIELD, Va. – The latest spring signees to commit to Bluefield College will hit the gridiron in the fall, as five high school student-athletes have recently inked their intent to play for the Rams football program.
Jarrell Carter and Michael Corkhill – both from Capital High School in Charleston, W. Va. – signed in a joined ceremony as the teammates look to continue their football careers together at the collegiate level. Carter and Corkhill both saw time on the offensive and defensive lines for the Cougars. The duo helped Capital High to a 7-4 record during the 2012 season.
Dominique Crockett will join the Rams from Wytheville, Va.’s George Wythe High School. Crockett was a two-year letterwinner for the Maroons, who claimed the 2012 A1 state championship. He served as safety on defense, in addition to being a formidable running back for the Maroons – amassing over 1,500 yards and over 20 touchdowns last season.
Josh Erby of Rock Hill High School in Rock Hill, S.C., looks to be a contributor for the Rams at the quarterback position. As a senior, Erby threw for nearly 2,900 yards and converted 32 touchdowns. Erby earned offensive player of the week (Sept. 12) honors from The Herald for completing 34-of-52 passes for 406 yards and five touchdowns.
Finally, Radford High School’sSean Smith also signed to become part of the BC football program. Smith played defense for the Bobcats as both a defensive end and a member of special teams. He is a multi-sport athlete, also swimming for four years and playing soccer for three.
