BREAKING: Accident slows traffic on I77

BECKLEY-Traffic on the interstate is moving again and the detour put in place has been canceled.

 An accident that happened just after 1pm Thursday afternoon has had traffic backed up for hours on I-77 north and southbound. A FedEx truck collided with a car flipped over and caught on fire, between the Harper Road exit and Mabscott exit in Beckley. 2 people were sent to the hospital and the driver of the car was flown to a Charleston hospital, no word on the extent of their injuries. 

Several local fire departments responded to the scene along with Hazmet. The accident remains under investigation at this time.

BECKLEY- An accident on the turnpike backed up traffic in Beckley.

Dispatchers with Turnpike State Police say just after 1pm Thursday a tractor trailer turned over on the northbound lane of I77 in Beckley just before exit 44.The commercial truck became engulfed with flames. The driver was flown to a Charleston hospital by Health Net.

Both the north and southbound lanes were closed while crews cleared the scene. The southbound lane is back open and traffic is moving slowly while the northbound lane is being detoured.
