OAK HILL - Church members in Fayette County recognized the National Day of Prayer Thursday morning.
A breakfast was held at the Nazarene Church on Jones Avenue in Oak Hill to commemorate the observance. Folks came together for fellowship and to pray for the government, schools, the military, and children.
National Day of Prayer is a long standing observance recognized by thousands of churches across the country.
Pastor Ralph Shupe, with the Jones Avenue Church of God, said that the community needed this event now more than ever. "I think our challenges continue to get greater, and so the greater the challenge the more prayer that we need, and this is just not a one day thing for us, we do it once a month as a group, as a community, and we try to keep it effective every month of the year," he said.
Events are also scheduled in Fayetteville, Lively Square in Oak Hill, and at the Commission on Aging in Beckley.
