BECKLEY - A planned expansion at St. Francis de Sales School would create the first Catholic high school in Southern West Virginia.

St. Francis currently operates an elementary and middle school.  Principal Karen Wynn said freshman and sophomore classes will begin in the fall, junior courses will start in September of 2014, and senior classes will be offered the year after that. The high school also plans to have track and field and cross country sports teams.

The building will be located behind the existing school.

Dr. Emily Meadows will serve as the school's new dean.  She's retiring as director of personnel for the Raleigh County Public School System.
