WAR-Members of a McDowell County VFW rededicate the final resting place of a McDowell County Veteran who died in Vietnam.
Saturday the members of the Sandy River VFW Post 1144 gave Specialist 4, Earl Gene Phillips his final resting place. Philips grew up in War and was killed in action in November of 1965 in South Vietnam, making him the first casualty of McDowell County. A few months ago his headstone and grave marker were destroyed. VFW Post 1144 and a group of Big Creek District veterans, replaced the bronze marker.
Earl Crigger was the Master of Ceremonies for Saturday's re-dedication.
VFW Post 1144's Honor Guard provided military honors in memory of
Specialist Phillips, and the supreme sacrifice he made while serving in
the armed forces of the United States of America.
