FAYETTEVILLE - The son of a dentist convicted of illegally prescribing drugs to family members was sentenced Thursday in Fayetteville.
Charles Shelton Jr., 32, was sentenced to five to 25 years in prison for six felony counts of constructive delivery of hydrocodone.
Prosecutors said Shelton Jr. used his father's position to feed his drug problem. Judge John Hatcher said the man turned his father's practice into a "candy store for druggies."
Shelton Jr. originally faced 30 drug charges before a plea deal. Prosecutors also agreed not to pursue any other drug charges against him or his wife as part of the deal.
Shelton Jr.'s wife is pregnant with the couple's baby boy. Hatcher requested that Shelton Jr. not be housed by his father.
