HINTON - President Barack Obama's budget proposal included $30 million for an ongoing project to stabilize the Bluestone Dam on the New River.
U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller said the dam has serious structural problems. Rockefeller also said that it's important for Congress to prioritize public safety projects as it works to reduce the federal deficit.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced the 20 year project in 1999. It's expected to cost a total of $300 million. The project will bring the Hinton dam up to modern safety standards.
