Charges filed for suspect of Mingo County Sheriff's murder

WILLIAMSON - State Police charged the man accused of killing Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum with attempted murder for allegedly pulling a gun on a deputy who chased and eventually shot him.

Charges for the slaying of Sheriff Eugene Crum will be filed separately by the Williamson Police Department, according to State Police Sergeant Michael Baylous.

The suspect is 37-year-old Tennis Melvin Maynard. Maynard was shot multiple times in Delbarton after crashing his car into a bridge during a chase with a deputy.  

Maynard is still being treated at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Authorities said he is expected to survive his injuries.
