UPDATE: New details come to light about Wednesday morning's deadly shooting.
Sheriff Steve Kessler said it happened around 2:00 a.m. at the Mountainair Mobile Home Park in Glen Jean. Deputies said that when they arrived on scene they found Gary Smith, 22, of Hilltop, suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. Smith was taken to Plateau Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Shortly after, Matthew Paul Gravley, 29, of Hilltop, came out of a nearby residence holding a handgun. Deputies said Gravley was ordered to drop the weapon and was taken into custody. He is charged with murder and is now in Southern Regional Jail.
HILLTOP - One man died and another was placed in police custody after an argument turned violent in Fayette County early Wednesday morning.
Capt. Jim Sizemore with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said the shooting happened just before 2:00 a.m. at the Mountainair Mobile Home Park near Hilltop. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and suspect were arguing at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
