BECKLEY - A Florida man was arrested Tuesday after police said that they found a meth lab in a residence where he and his family were staying.

Mark Lyons, 44, was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and child neglect with the risk of serious injury.  Beckley Police served a search warrant around midnight when they said they found components of a methamphetamine lab at a house on South Fayette Street where Lyons, his wife, and six-month-old baby girl lived.

Detective Gary Epling of the Raleigh County Sheriff's Department was called to the scene after police officers conducted the search warrant. The Environmental Protection Agency cleaned up the area Thursday morning.

Chief Detective Gant Montgomery of the Beckley Police Department said there has not been a meth bust in Beckley in years. "We typically do not find meth labs in the city at all. It's very uncommon," Montgomery said.

The house is diagonally across the street from Stratton Elementary and next to the East Beckley Division of the Beckley Police Department. Montgomery said it is "a very dangerous situation all-around" because of the house's location.

The incident is still under investigation. Lyons is being held in Southern Regional Jail and his bail has been set at $125,000.
