FAYETTEVILLE - A recent underage alcohol sting in Fayetteville showed an increase in underage alcohol sales.

Fayetteville Police said they conducted the sting at 16 locations across town on February 1. At six of the locations, the employees sold alcohol illegally to an underage buyer. Those locations are: Don Patrone Mexican Restaurant, D&L Packette, Diogi's Mexican Grill & Cantina, the two Comac stores on Elliott's Way and Whitewater Bar and Grill.

Police said the aim of the sting was to curtail underage drinking. It was conducted in conjunction with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Administration (ABCA).

There has been an increase in businesses that sell alcohol to those who are underage, according to police. "This has been the most that we've had," said Lieutenant David Kinzer. "Usually we get probably four locations...on the stings that we do get."

Underage alcohol stings are conducted by the Fayetteville Police Department and the ABCA every few months.
