BECKLEY - One man is behind bars and two others may face criminal charges following a high-speed chase in Raleigh County which ended in a crash Sunday night.
Officials at the Sheriff's Office said 36-year-old Carlos Burnside of Beaver was charged with grand larceny and two counts of armed robbery.
The robberies started around 7 p.m., when Burnside allegedly stole a car from the Shell Station in Daniels. Minutes later, an armed robbery occurred at the One Stop on Harper Road in Beckley.
Then at about 10 p.m., the same person robbed the Beaver Little General Store, and a deputy was in pursuit of the car minutes later. Burnside's physical description matched the description of the suspect for each of the robberies.
During the pursuit, the car crashed into the Rising Stars Childcare building. The building's owner, Debbie Tyree, said she only bought the building six months ago.
"You just don't think of anything like that happening," she said. "And I'm just thankful that there [were not any] kids here at the time - that it was in the middle of the night and the kids were all home safe."
Officials said the investigation is ongoing.
