BECKLEY - Enrollment at the University of Charleston is the highest its been in the past 30 years.

At the Charleston campus, 1,367 students are taking courses, according to university officials. In the regional network at UC-Beckley, UC-Martinsburg and online at UC-Net, 517 students are enrolled.

UC-Beckley officials said they are pleased with the starting numbers for the new university, but they still want to keep the momentum going. "We're pleased with where we're starting, but we consider it a starting point," said President Jerry Forester. "We've got a lot to do to build on the numbers here in UC-Beckley, Martinsburg and online."

Forester said he would like to see enrollment numbers at the Beckley campus double within the next year.
