PRINCETON - A Mercer County high school teacher resigned Monday after several female students alleged sexual misconduct, officials told WOAY.

Jonathan Kirk, a physical education and health teacher for Pikeview High School, resigned Monday. The resignation came after Superintendent Deborah Akers suspended him for 30 days without pay, according to the Mercer County Board of Education.

More than two girls at the high school reported the allegations, officials said.

In a special session Tuesday, the Board of Education accepted Kirk's resignation under certain conditions. It said the findings of the investigation will go into Kirk's personnel file and to the West Virginia Department of Education.

State Police are now handling the investigation.

The principal of Pikeview told WOAY he could not comment Tuesday night.
