Displaced workers had the chance to explore new opportunities in Ghent today
New River Community and Technical College hosted an open house at its Advanced Technology Center where perspective students could tour the campus and get more information on different hands on training options. The open house was open to the public however it was geared mainly toward dislocated coal workers who may qualify for a $5000 scholarship to help pay for the training. Organizers say many people were interested.
"It's been great. Just within the first hour we had over 30 something students walk through our door. It's been a little bit of everyone. I know we've had at least 6 students that ive seen myself that we've had talk to our UMWA representatives today." Said Tracy Evans, Director of Enrollment for NRCTC.
People interested were able to register for classes at the open house as well.
