The University of Charleston has officially opened up its Beckley campus

Representatives from the university held a ribbon cutting ceremony today outside Carter Hall. More than fifty people showed up to welcome the university to town. Since this new chapter has just begun, the university is focusing on raising its enrollment in order to bring the number of students the Beckley campus is used to seeing.

"Folks we talked to in the community are please to have an educational center here in Beckley as it has been for many many years. So we're please about the initial response and we're going to need the help of everybody to rebuild the program." Area president Jerry Forster said.

Beckley Mayor Emmett Pugh has high hopes for UCB

"The city looks forward now to developing the same relationship with the University of Charleston Beckley as they grow this institution." he said.
