A physical dispute in Ansted the morning of New Year's Day sent one person to the hospital.

It happened around 1:30 am at a house on Central Avenue, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. Dispatchers originally received a call about underage drinking going on, and then received another call about a large fight.

About fifteen people were fighting and arguing both on the street and inside the house. One man's face was injured and he was transported to Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill. Officials are trying to determine what caused the fight to start.

"[The fight] apparently started with people having too much to drink on New Year's Eve," said Captain Jim Sizemore of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. "Most of these people are either friends, acquaintances, or relatives, and it just erupted into a brawl."

The sheriffs are meeting with the prosecuting attorney's office on Wednesday to determine if any charges will be filed. The incident is still under investigation and it's unknown if underage drinking did occur.
