Snowboarders and skiers of all skill levels headed to opening day at Winterplace Ski Resort in Ghent on Sunday.
Folks said the sunny day helped with the conditions of the snow. We had a little bit of powder, so that's nice," said avid skier Amanda Hanks. "Not so much ice, so that worked out well."
Even beginner skiers say they still had fun, despite falling down a few times. "Once we figured it out [how to ski], it was so much fun!" said beginner skier Usama Abdellah. His wife, Rehab, added, "We fell a lot, but it was fun!"
The management team had been preparing for the season extensively. "We've been ready to get started for the last couple of weeks, so its
finally great to get the season going," said Tom Peterson of Winterplace. "And seeing a lot of people out
here having fun, this is fantastic."
Fifteen trails and six ski lifts were open Sunday, and management officials said more terrain will be open toward the end of the week.
