A Fayette County volunteer fire department is answering calls again after being closed for more than two weeks.
The Smithers Volunteer Fire Department has fixed insurance problems that caused it to close earlier this month. They closed earlier this month after falling behind on insurance payments. But they still need to solve problems over training and their board of directors.
"We hope to have, by the end of the year, new by-laws written that will give a majority of the board of directors to the citizens in the community, so that the community feels they have an active part in what's going on," says Steve Cruikshank of the Fayette Co. Office of Emergency Services.
Boomer and Montgomery Fire Departments covered the Smithers area while they were closed. This was the second time the fire department was closed this year.
