Traffic on the turnpike was down one and a half percent during the Thanksgiving week compared to last year.
There were about 724,000 toll-booth transactions during a six-day period ending Sunday along the 88-mile highway between Charleston and Princeton, according to West Virginia Parkways Authority General Manager Greg Barr. Last November saw 11,000 more transactions.
The record of 772,000 was set in 2009. For the entire year, however, toll-booth transactions are up 1.7 percent compared to 2011, Bar said.
