People with loved ones in hospice attended a community memorial Tuesday night in Beckley. Hospice of Southern West Virginia (HSWV) hosted its annual memorial at the Family Worship Center.
HSWV invited families of past and present hospice patients to attend, as well as the general public. The service included a flags presentation by the American Legion Post 32, music and prayers.
HSWV Social Services Coordinator Harold Dobbins said the memorial offered support for those in sorrow. "Grief is about sharing your story. It's about being apart, honoring and reflecting upon that person. So this gives them another venue to do that."
Dobbins said HSWV offers similar services throughout the year, including a three-week special bereavement class focusing on coping during the holidays.
