Volunteers from a group of local churches gathered supplies Saturday to donate to children overseas.

Fifteen members of the Hico Charge of the United Methodist Church bought toys, candy, and other items to pack in shoe boxes to send to needy children as part of their annual Shoebox Ministry.

Youth Volunteer Leader of the Hico Charge, Meredith Gray, said it's eye-opening to give back. "To be there and watch needy people accept the food baskets or these's very touching," Gray said.

Organizers are packing the shoe boxes Sunday night and their goal is to fill 100 of them. They said any extra supplies will be donated to needy local families.
