Students are back in class at a Summersville school where the roof partially collapsed under the weight of heavy snow.
Nicholas County Schools Assistant Superintendent Damon Hanshaw says that crews stabilized Summersville Elementary School on Monday and Tuesday. A broken truss caused the roof to sink a foot and force them to close two classrooms. Maintenance crews found the problem before it could get worse.
"With the amount of snow on the roof, it could've come on down and collapsed. That could've caused the next one to break and could be like a domino effect," he says. "But it didn't happen."
Hanshaw also says permanent repairs won't be finished until next month.
