With Bridge Day approaching next weekend, work is underway to get everyone prepared for the heavy traffic.
Authorities say Route 19 will be closed at Court Street and Ames Heights on both ends of the bridge, which means travelers will have to find alternate ways to get to their destinations. Officials advise allowing up to an hour and a half of extra time if you will be having to take a detour.
"If they're not coming to Bridge Day they're better off to avoid 19 it's a nightmare of a traffic issue. If you don't have to be out on the road you're better off not being out for those coming to Bridge Day there are reserved parking areas on both sides of the bridge to let folks park and take shuttles," said Capt. Jim Sizemore.
Officials say the preparation for this day starts long before the event, and they will have help from more than 200 emergency personnel.
