Man Hospitalized After Rappelling Accident

A man is airlifted to Charleston after a rappelling accident on the New River Gorge.

It happened around 5:00 PM Thursday at Bridge Butress.  According to Chief Ranger Jeff West with the National Park Service, a 37-year-old man from Illinois fell about 70 feet.  The man was on a non-commercial trip with his friends at the time of the accident.  He was flown by Health Net to CAMC.  West said that the man is alive and was conscious.  

The accident is under investigation.
