Beckley Starting CERT Team

Beckley is looking for people to help the city in case of an emergency.

A Community Emergency Response Team, also known as CERT, is starting next month.  Team members help save lives and protect homes in cases where first responders aren't able to reach them.  They can also take some pressure off of overloaded emergency systems.

"We certainly saw that with our summer storms and power outages, where our emergency responders are overwhelmed with demands of their service.  So, it only makes sense that we train volunteers in our community," says Kevin Taylor, City Director of Emergency Services.

Training sessions are scheduled for November 5th, 9th, 12th, and 13th.
