Seniors are an important and valuable part of our communities and keeping them safe is a big priority for U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin.
Goodwin met with seniors today at the Summers County Senior Center where he discussed ways seniors can protect themselves against scams and home invasions. These crimes against the older population have grown in number as the prescription drug problem has increased. After the speech Goodwin opened the floor for seniors with any questions and concerns. NewsWatch asked Goodwin what made seniors an easier target for these crimes.
"No question that this generation and West Virginia in general are more trusting, more caring people and unfortunately that makes them easy marks at times." Goodwin said.
Goodwin will continue addressing senior safety throughout Southern West Virginia in the next couple of weeks.
