Bluefield is cracking down on people who haven't paid police and court fees.
Chief Financial Officer Claude Crigger says some unpaid fees are at least three years old. City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to hire Rossman Collection Services to collect the fees. But Crigger isn't sure how much of an impact it will make to the city's finances.
"If we get into it and there's a substantial amount of fines that are unpaid, it could have a huge impact, or it could be a mediocre-type impact," says Crigger.
City Attorney Brian Cochran says many people may not even know that they owe a fine.
