LEWISBURG - Hundreds of Greenbrier County students wrapping up their first week of the school year will soon receive needed supplies.
Communities in Schools began the first day of its annual Stuff the Bus in Lewisburg Thursday.
The group works with at-risk students to overcome barriers and decrease the dropout rate. Its staff is asking that residents donate school supplies like backpacks and lunch boxes to distribute to the county's 13 public schools.
Communities in Schools said many students don't come to class prepared. The group works with teachers to disburse the supplies to students who need them most.
"They're just always so appreciative, and they're always so excited to have what they need to start the school year because it's exciting to start the school year, but not if you don't have the tools that you need to be successful," Kasey Carter told WOAY.
Anyone interested can donate supplies at the Lewisburg Walmart through Sunday at 5 p.m., or stop by the Rainelle Kroger this weekend.
Financial donations help when this batch of school supplies runs out.
