BECKLEY - The largest school district in southern West Virginia welcomed back students Wednesday.

Raleigh County Schools opened their doors for more than 12,500 students at 29 schools, according to officials. The district is the fifth largest school system in the state.

Officials told Newswatch they are excited to have students back in school and look forward to another productive year. "I think that the adults and teachers in the building and I are just as excited as the students," said Mary McClung, principal of Bradley Elementary School.
