BECKLEY- A jury deliberated for hours in the Donald Dunn Jr. first-degree murder trial Wednesday in Raleigh County Court but not all 12 could agree on a verdict.

Dunn testified Wednesday morning, admitting to murdering his step-father Mark McDermott and attempting to kill his mother Jonah McDermott. When asked about his relationship with his mother, Dunn said that he loves everything about her and that he has re-established his relationship with her. He was the final witness to testify. Afterwards, closing arguments were made by both sides with the defense acknowledging the murder but asking the jury for mercy. After it was announced that the jury had reached its verdict it was found that they didn't reach a unanimous decision on the issue of mercy. 11 of 12 jurors voted for no mercy, causing further deliberations to be put on hold till Thursday morning.
