Visitors from throughout the state and across the region made their way today to the opening of the state fair

FAIRLEA -- Over the next nine days, officials say that more than one hundred thousand people will be passing through the gates. And some attendee's will also be from out of state. One woman came all the way from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to come and see her relative perform in of the contests and is making this one vacation she won't forget.

Rita DuTone, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, says she “thinks it really shows your culture i think it highlights what West Virginia is all about and I’m really enjoying it, the foods great, the people are amazing and super nice and its fantastic.”

The West Virginia starts today and runs until next Saturday the 16th.
