BECKLEY- The murder trial is underway for the Beckley man accused of killing his stepfather and trying to kill his mother.
Proceedings started Thursday morning with opening statements in Raleigh County Circuit Court for the trial of 24 year-old Donald Dunn of Stanaford. He is charged with the first-degree murder for the shooting death of his step father, 47year-old Mark McDermott back in may of 2013. He's also charged with attempted murder of his mother Johnanna McDermott . Witnesses have taken the stand for the prosecution. The state is asking for Dunn to be sentenced to life in prison without mercy.
"We are here because after murdering Mark McDermott, the defendant's step-father, he then waited till his mother came home and attempted to fire a 3rd bullet that had been loaded by him in the Kel-Tech into the head of his mother," said Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Keller.
The trial continues tomorrow morning in Raleigh County Court.
