MERCER COUNTY - An amber alert has been issued for a Virginia boy and emergency dispatchers told Newswatch the abductor was driving in Mercer County Wednesday morning.

Tommy Lee Able Engle, 3, was abducted Monday night by his father, Tommy Lee Travis Engle. The boy is three feet tall, weighs 35 pounds, and has short blonde hair and blue eyes, according to Virginia’s amber alert website.

Mercer County dispatchers said they received a BOLO around 2 a.m. Wednesday after the father's cell phone was pinged and it was located in the area of Route 460 and I-77. Folks are asked to be on the lookout for a navy blue Dodge Neon four-door car with a Virginia license plate WNZ9169.

The father has a background in military training and has been very hostile toward law enforcement. He may be armed with AK-47 and a ballistics vest.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Patrick County Sheriff's Office at 276-694-3161 or Virginia State Police at 800-822-4453.
