BECKLEY -- A campaign for cracking down on red light
running is adding to the saying "red means stop."
The Southern Regional Highway Safety Office held a press conference
today to announce the Target Red Enforcement Campaign.
Officers from several local agencies were in attendance to
help promote the kick-off. Target Red is an anti-red-light running campaign
that was started in Beckley in 2008 to target problem intersections and reduce
crashes. It's now enforced each year by law enforcement agencies across West
Matt Jeffries, the Chief of Police in Fayetteville, says “we
have a lot of horrific and fatal crashes, particularly on route 19, due to
people running red lights or people driving, through this we hope to prevent
some of that.”
The 2014 enforcement will begin on August 1st and
run through 17th.
