BECKLEY- Many local areas dodged what looked like a rainy forecast Sunday afternoon.
Fire departments always have to be ready in case of fires or severe weather. Local firefighters say they monitor the weather when severe systems are forecast. They have special equipment to help in case of tree limbs falling in the road but what happens when severe showers cause flooding? Firefighters have to wait for the elements to stop before they can get started.
"If it's a flooded road way, there's not really a whole lot you can do until the rain stops and the water recedes so most of the time, we're going to set up detours, we'll block the road way, try to keep people out of danger," said Chris Lanna.
