BECKLEY- A local American Red Cross is asking people to donate blood this week after lower than expected contributions to start July.
The Beckley chapter of the American Red Cross will be open Tuesday from 11 am till 4 pm in hopes of getting closer to their monthly expectations. They are currently 80,000 units short of their goal through the first two weeks of July. That equates to around seven to eight percent of their total expectations. One donation can help save up to three lives.
"If everyone would step back in the line and donate one extra time for the summer, if they may have got busy and forgotten to donate, if everyone that does that would step up and donate, we'll be fine and the nation will be fine. It's just a matter of telling folks, letting them know, hey, American Red Cross is still here, yes your grass needs to be cut but come in and help save a life with us today," said Scott Hill.
Hill is encouraging people of all blood types to come to the Red Cross and donate blood Tuesday.
